"Yes, Virginia"는 놀라운 일에 대해 말할 때에 쓰이는 표현입니다. 원래는 어떤 8살짜리 Virginia라는 여자애가 어느 신문사에 자기는 산타클로스가 있는줄 아는데 남들이 없다고 그런다, 그게 진짜냐, 라고 묻는 편지를 보낸 것이 기원이라고 합니다. 신문사에서는 그에 대한 답으로 산타클로스가 있다는 글을 실었고 그 글 중에서 "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus"라는 표현이 나왔습니다. 현재에는 믿기 힘든 일이나 뭔가 놀라운 일에 대해 장난스럽게 말할 때에 "Yes, Virginia, blah blah..." 라는 식의 표현이 가끔 쓰입니다. 경우에 따라서는 빈정대는 의미가 포함됩니다.

말하자면, 이를테면, to be so easy to see and understand that you do not need to say anything else about it/them

(군대 등에서의) 닦는 작업, thorough cleaning and polishing of sth
